Uh... I mean thriftiness and common sense. What you see here is what will end up being at least six pairs of shorts and what ever else I can scrounge out of the scraps left over. What you see here is $18 and some change worths of clothes from Goodwill. I literally counted out change to buy this stuff...poor cashier. Oh well. Why the big shopping spree?
You see Quirky is growing by leaps and bounds, and it is next to if not near impossible to find shorts that both fit her in length and in the waist. She is tall for her age and thin. So tall that most regular length shorts look like short shorts on her, and few things fit her in the waist...we are talking about kids department waist and junior department height here. Weird combo...but hey that's where we are and we are going to make the best of it. We did try shopping around first...the mall...Target...TJMaxx...even Wal-Mart, all the lovely places that our small town has to offer. The few we could find that came close would either still have to be taken at the waist or were entirely too short for a girl her age. Not to mention the least expensive pair that we found was $19.99 before tax...for shorts that she will probably wear one summer. And yes I am too cheap to buy a pair $19.99 shorts that I am automatically going to have to alter...it's ridiculous! So instead we did what we have done before and hit Goodwill and found some great stuff that will yes have to be altered but not drastically. At Goodwill I can by a pair of pants that fit in the waist and make them any length we need. At Goodwill I found soon to be six pairs of shorts for less than it would have cost for one pair. The great thing is that Quirky doesn't mind and she is already thinking of some other cool things she would like to try to make them her own. I have feeling we are going to be pulling out our stash of clothes dye again...
